The problem with technology is that it doesn't stand still even for a minute so you can't get to grips with it before it has moved on and digital cameras functions are a prime example; many of these functions the average buyer has either no need for or just doesn't understand. When you are ready to buy a digital camera, consider what it is you want it to do. In order for you to make an educated choice, I have compiled some areas that are generally looked at when deciding. If this is your first camera then you must be honest with yourself if you have no idea what functions you would want your camera to have.For instance: what type of images are you hoping to capture? Would it also be good to look at your  HDTV television ? As far as cost is concerned, no matter what your needs and wants are for the device, your financial resource will play a huge part in dictating the type of model you will buy. Some people like to manipulate the images on their computer but this is only possible with more modern home computers. If you can get a free camera as part of a computer upgrade this might be worth looking into. When you buy a digital camera, the image editing software usually comes with it but other necessities such as a photo printer will be an extra cost itemMost people with computers will have a printer but you must check to see if it can be used for printing photos. By adjusting the megapixel setting up to the maximum you will ensure your pictures are of a much higher quality. Many of the latest model digital cameras have a small built in memory but this will only store a few images at the highest resolution so a separate storage card will be necessary. Storage cards come in a number of different types sometimes storing up to 32 gigabytes for those very high resolution images; most users can happily use 1 or 2 gigabyte cards to store hundreds of images.Another, sometimes under-used test is just holding it to see how it feels. Consider where the buttons are located and how they are spaced out and see if you feel comfortable using the viewfinder. Many newer digital cameras come equipped with large internal rechargeable batteries but if not you shot invest in a couple of sets; these are a great idea and over the life of the battery can save hundreds of dollars and that's also better for the environment. The more up to date digital cameras are complemented with a decent size LCD screen; it makes both viewing and taking photos much easier but they can be a drain on battery power.Many of the sub-compact versions have decided to do away with the viewfinder and concentrate on fitting the largest screen they can because people like using them. If you want yours to have a good zoom facility, you should opt for those with an optical zoom lens. The picture quality deteriorates if you use the digital zoom camera and generally isn't worth the bother once you have seen the image results. Better quality models will usually come with a tripod socket as it can be another one of those really useful additions, so ensure when you buy a model where this is fitted. Perhaps now you will be able to buy a digital camera with a little more self-assurance than before.
