Modern theological college establishments

Theology seminaries now provide a broad variety of plans and formats for students who are not thinking to enter regular Christian ministry. Seminaries training has become democratized. There are online programs, weekend classes, and cohort-based academic degrees. There are recent courses of study designed for pupils who will not enter established professions like the pastorate upon commencement. And there are satellite colleges and other untraditional backgrounds that permit scholars to attend theological college without having to travel or to vary their lifestyles. The establishment of modern theological college establishments was a straight outcome of Roman Catholic reforms of the Counter-Reformation after the Council of Trent which insisted on the improvement of the instruction of clergy by the introduction of Seminaries as live-in foundations under the primary control of elder clergy. Since at least the fourth century there have been Seminaries for the schooling of clergy.
