Welfare
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often called the Mormon Church, has a very successful and renowned welfare program. It is a large part of mormon doctrine that it is every person’s responsibility to take care of the poor and needy around them. The Church has developed a program which reaches worldwide, enabling people to get the necessary help to take care of their families in hard times and to help them get back on their feet. However, it is also a principle of mormon doctrine that people must work and should not be given anything for free. That is why the mormon doctrine inherent in the welfare program encourages self-reliance.
